What makes the Metro different
Room & Board calls the Metro its best-selling sofa. The standard Metro measures 88 inches wide by 38 inches deep by 27 inches high, with a 22-inch seat. A deeper version runs 98 by 43 by 27 inches (36 inches high over the cushion), with a 27-inch seat. Metro also comes as a sectional up to 135 by 135 inches, and as a chaise configuration 112 inches wide by 64 inches deep with a 48-inch inside depth. The legs are removable, which is Room & Board's own detail, not ours, and it's the first thing we take off.

How we take the Metro apart
We start with the legs. They come off first, which clears the stair turns before we touch the frame. On a Metro, the back is the part that usually comes off next: we open it, find the frame, and cut it free. What's left is a U, both arms and the seat, and that fits through almost any NYC door. For a tighter entrance we take out an L instead, the back plus one arm. Which cut we use depends on the building, not the sofa. That's what the talk-through decides.

If it doesn't fit
Room & Board's own return policy, checked September 27, 2026: 90 days to return an order placed on or after August 1, 2025, including custom "Made for you" pieces, with a free pickup and no restocking fee. Only the $159 delivery charge stays with you. It's the most forgiving return policy of any brand we checked.

Before you order
Room & Board's Chelsea store is at 236 West 18th Street. Measure the whole route before you order, not just the front door: building entrance, elevator or stairs, hallway turns and your own apartment door. Our doorway and hallway guide covers the measurements that trip people up most, and we work across Manhattan every day, from Chelsea walk-ups to high-rise elevators. Check the route with Will My Sofa Fit?, and send the Metro's product link to the AI Quote Tool to see your price range.
The fabric
The Metro we priced was in Mori, an oatmeal performance weave. When the back comes off, we work from the frame side with the tool pointed inward, so the fabric you see is never in its path.
Light fabric? Have it taken apart indoors
Metro's own return policy is the easiest of any brand we work with, so the money argument for the Workshop Fit is weaker here than on most sofas in this batch. What still matters is the fabric and the floor it lands on. With the Workshop Fit, the Metro comes to our workshop before it reaches you, and we take it apart indoors on a clean carpet, one sofa at a time, never on the sidewalk or a lobby floor.
