What makes the Reid different
The 86-inch Reid measures 86 inches wide by 39 inches deep by 32 inches high on its 4-inch tubular legs, or about 29 inches high on the 1-inch block legs. Either way, the seat depth is 22 inches. DWR's own listing confirms the legs interchange between the two heights, which makes them genuinely removable, not just decorative, unlike most of the legs in this batch of sofas.

How we take the Reid apart
On most sofas it's the back or the base that comes off. The Reid gives us more options: the back and the arms can each come off on their own. A wide entrance may only need the back removed. A tighter hallway or elevator can take the back plus an arm instead. We decide the combination in the talk-through, once we know your door, hallway and elevator. Two Reid jobs in two different buildings don't necessarily come apart the same way.

If it doesn't fit
DWR's own return policy, checked September 27, 2026: 30 days on non-custom Reid configurations, with a 10 percent restocking charge, and the $399 In-Home Delivery fee is never refunded. Custom and special-order Reid configurations can't be returned at all. On a Reid priced around $6,200, that 10 percent plus delivery works out to roughly $1,020 lost.

Before you order
Design Within Reach, the full name behind the "DWR" most people say, shows the Reid at three New York studios: SoHo at 150 Greene Street, Flatiron at 903 Broadway, and 57th and 3rd at 957 Third Avenue. That's more Manhattan showroom coverage than any other brand in this batch. Measure the whole route before you order: building entrance, elevator or stairs, hallway turns and your own apartment door. Our doorway and hallway guide covers the measurements that matter most, and we work across Manhattan every day, near all three studios. Check the route with Will My Sofa Fit?, and send the Reid's product link to the AI Quote Tool to see your price range.
The fabric
The Reid comes in performance fabrics and leather depending on configuration. The one we priced was in Mode Basket. Fabric or leather, we lift the upholstery with the tool pointed inward, away from the face you see, so a slip can't mark it.
Light fabric? Have it taken apart indoors
With the Workshop Fit, the Reid comes to our workshop before it comes to you. We take it apart indoors on a clean carpet, one sofa at a time, then carry it in and rebuild it in your home. It's never opened on the sidewalk or a lobby floor. The Workshop Fit →
